Rhythm, Repetition and Transformation, 2018, Pastel oil chalk on paper, 4 panels of 500 cm x 100 cm, 30 panels of 42 cm x 29.7 cm
This piece is inspired by Alexander Gottfarb’s performance Repeat and Transform. Over several months, I attended his performances, which centered on breathing, circular movements, and repetition. I began by drawing to mimic his choreography, but over time, my own movements emerged.
I explored various gestures and forms, using my entire body to engage with the paper. I typically worked with both hands in a repetitive motion, allowing the movements to transform into something new. The oil chalk remained on the paper, making the transformation and bodily gestures visible as lines.
Later, I shifted to smaller drawings, each focusing on one or two specific gestures. This work encourages mindfulness, fostering a conscious engagement with the present moment and decision-making.
